Surprisingly better than Kanki

by mkathrynp at Citysearch

Unlike Kanki, we didn't have to wait for an hour + to be seated (and last time we went to Kanki the chicken wasn't cooked done!). We were seated and waited on promptly. The food was awesome (Hibachi shrimp, Teriyaki Steak)--cooked well, the chef was friendly/entertaining. I was a bit skeptical because he wasn't a Japanese chef, but the food was definitely up to par! Definitely recommend going here--reasonable prices for a Japanese steakhouse, good cocktails, not so good beer selection.

Best sushi in eastern NC!

Okay, Ichiban has a surprisingly awesome sushi bar. It's tiny, but the chef there is AMAZING. He makes his own ponzu sauce, eel sauce, cooks his own ebi (shrimp), and orders really high quality fish. The sushi is amazing. I almost always just eat sashimi, nigiri or order a chirashi but the specialty rolls are numerous and they're unbeatable. It's not like most sushi specials where the rolls are almost all identical and just modified shrimp tempura rolls.

The teppan side is decent, too. I mean, the quality of the food is actually pretty good and you get noodles with your entre! Yum. I love the noodles. They don't have like, udon, just spaghetti noodles, but they're cooked hibachi style and they're sooo gooood. The carrots at lunch are bangin, too.

It's hands down the best restaurant in Rocky Mount (which isnt saying much, I know) but seriously, if you go and eat the sushi there you'll be a fan for life.

Ichiban can be a very romantic experience

The setting can be very intimate. The food is delicious and the chef's are hilarious! I had a wonderful time the 3 times that I went, but then my man is always very romantic!!!!!
